CAF Approves 5,000 fans for Nigeria, Liberia World Cup clash

The Confederation of African Football has told the Nigeria Football Federation that it would only allow 5000 fans to watch the Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifier between Nigeria and Liberia. The match will take place at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos on September 3.

The NFF had requested CAF to allow12,000 spectators for the Eagles’ first World Cup qualifiers.

In the letter signed by Raul Chipenda, CAF’s Development Director, CAF stated that 5,000 fans would be allowed to watch the match.

“As it is known, we would like to reiterate that the CAF and FIFA COVID-19 match protocols clearly state that all matches must be played behind closed doors,” the statement read.

“Nonetheless, CAF analysed and assessed your request from a medical, stadium requirements compliance, and safety and security perspective in your venue.

“Accordingly, a decision has been taken to exceptionally allow the presence of 5,000 spectators in the aforementioned match.”
